Multilingual Desktop Publishing
Desktop publishing (DTP) is an additional step in the translation process, for clients who prefer or require their translated document(s) to mirror the format and layout of the original document(s), typically involving a graphic design program.
At Translation Source, we can work with a wide variety of source files, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Quark Xpress, Microsoft Publisher, and many more. Furthermore, we can work in both Mac and Windows environments.
Once your translation has been completed, one of our professional graphic designers and production specialists will re-import the translated text directly back into the original graphic design file. Next, they will make any adjustments to account for language expansion or contraction, right-to-left display languages (such as Hebrew or Arabic), fonts, etc. They can even recommend graphic or design changes to make your design more appropriate for your intended target audience.
Finally, one of our expert proofreaders will review the final proof in order to ensure that no errors were introduced during the formatting process. We can also create high-resolution and print-ready PDFs (with crop marks and bleeds) upon request so that your translated files are ready for printing and/or digital distribution.
Section 508 Compliance Services
In keeping with Section 508 of the United States Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973, we can even provide Section 508 Compliance services. Section 508 requires federal agencies (and businesses that work with the federal government, private contractors, financial & healthcare industries, etc.) to make their technology, online training and websites accessible for people with disabilities who rely on screen readers and other related types of technology. This includes any documents posted online in foreign languages.
Our 508 Compliance Specialists utilize a combination of manual review, accessibility tools, and government-issued checklists to validate Section 508 Compliance to your foreign language documents and will make revisions to the tag structure and other elements (e.g., fonts, tables, headings, etc.) to conform to the required legal standard.
Ultimately, using Translation Source for desktop publishing (DTP) reduces the turnaround time for your translation projects by having your document translated and formatted all under one roof. We can also make recommendations based on cultural experience in the target language, resulting in a truly localized final format that best suits the needs of our clients by reaching the intended target audience and presenting their message within the appropriate cultural context of the reader.
